Can my (Mexican) children go to a USA public school or must I send them to private school ?
If I move to the USA, can I send my (three) children to a USA public school or MUST I send them to a private school ? The area I am looking at has very good public schools and some very good private schools (but incredibly expensive). Actually , I could afford the private schools but I just want to know what my options are. Some background information : I am thinking of Moving to USA from Mexico. I, my three children and wife all have Mexican Passports(even though we are mostly a Mixture of Russian/German/Spaniards and could apply for passports for those countries). All of us speak fluent English. I currently have my business in Mexico, where I employ 10 people, and fortunately I enjoy a very good living. However..I am currently thinking of moving to the USA and opening a second business there (this second one will start very small with just me and my wife but I am hoping that in a couple of years I can duplicate the success I've had in Mexico. Unlike my fellow countrymen who go the USA, to find jobs and escape poverty , my own particular reason for moving to the USA is strictly for safety because of the drug killings, kidnappings etc. Even though I live in a very affluent and safe area in Mexico , and so far nothing has ever happend to my family, it looks like it is getting nastier every day so I want to get out of here before the s*it hits the fan. However, there are a lot of pros and cons for me to evaluate, which is why I would appreciate any input on the matter. Only serious answers please. Thank you very much ! We would all live legally in the USA.

If you're here legally, WELCOME to AMERICA!!!! :D Yeah, your kids can go to public school. I don't see why not.

You would have no trouble enrolling your children in a public school, particularly if you are residing in the U.S. legally.

You would first need a green card or some legal way to come to the country and stay. I have no idea how you would start a business as an illegal. If your kids are illegal then it depends on the district whether or not they will take your kids. I am sure a private school would probably take your money. My advice is to stay where you are.

If your children are legal in the USA they must go to school as long as they live in there. I never studied in the USA, but I have a lot of friends that did. Kids must go to school! I lived (legally) in London and had to study there for all the years I've been in there. If they're illegal, try to change the situation, if they're legal, find the nearest school to them!

Since you said you will be living legally in the USA, then you will have no trouble at all enrolling your kids in the public school system. As long as you live in the district where you want to send your kids, there will be no problem enrolling them. If you happen to live outside the district, you can still send them to the school you want to send them to as long as you apply for a transfer. But I suggest doing this as soon as possible if applying for a transfer because they tend to fill up spots in the school fast.

I don't know where you're considering a relocation to, but there are excellent private schools in McAllen, Texas which is about 4 hours from Monterrey NL

What's the best Dental university/school in the NE of USA
What's the best Dental university/school in the NE of USA?
I want to be a dentist or a dental hygienist. I want to go to a college where people say "Wow... there?". Is there any colleges famous for dentistry? I'm currently in high school and know sure that I want to do something in the dental industry. What activites/classes should i take to prepare for this? I've decided in taking chemistry and biology since it's the only classes I can link to it.

Am 16 moving to USA on my own for high school, need advice...?
Ok, so I am 16 and thinking of moving to the usa for high school. My parents will not be moving with me, they will be staying in europe. They will support me financially and stuff though.Does the states have like youth hostels or student housing or something like that? Moving to a public high school though where there is no housing provided, but big towns must offer a student apartment building or something right? Will be thankful for any advice..!

I'm not sure if there's anything like that.... You might consider living with a host family; look into abroad programs in your hometown, city, area, wherever you live.

you cannot live in the the US without having a guardian. you're a minor. BUT you should definitely look into becoming a foreign exchange student for a while. that will allow you to go to high school but you would be living with a family for a while.

At 16, you cannot sign a contract, therefore you cannot rent or purchase a place to live. In many states you cannot drive. You cannot get a job. You cannot sign up for school without a parent or guardian. So, my advice, do it the proper way, or wait a couple of years and come here to college -- where student housing IS available, you can come without your parents, and can do things legally!

Anyone know the nearest place to apply, and do I need to apply in person or what is the best option?

I learnt it from DV lottery 2009 application form on line . But I can't understand what is meant. How long do i need to study for geting "High school degree " and how long will I have to pass for completion " high school, no degree" in USA. I will be highly obliged if you describe and make me understand about it .

In the US, highschool is a four year term of education. All citizens are entitled to these four years of education "free". That is, the schools are supported by the local and state taxes, and the cost is borne by all property tax payers, not just the parents of the children attending public schools. If a student maintains at least a 2.0 GPA during all these classes, he will receive a highschool diploma, a paper which verifies his "degree". Grade Points are calculated for each test during the course, by dividing the number of points earned by right answers, by the total number of points possible in the test, and expressed as a percentage. Thus, if there were four questions, and you answered three right, your grade is 75. At the end of the course, the instructor adds up all your grades and averages them for your final grade. Your GPA is calculated from all the final grades each semester. Letter grades, A, B, C, D, and F, are also used. These are given based on percentages, also. 70% is the lowest passing grade, while 100% is a perfect score, all the answers right on Aa test. The thirty percentage points from 70 to 100 are divided by four, which is the number of the letter grades A, B, C, and D. So letter grade A is assigned for all percentages between 100 and 92 or 93, and B is assigned to percentages between 92 and 85, and so on. 69% is not a passing grade; the letter grade is F. For Grade Point averages, Letter grades are replaced with numerals 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0. Calculations are made by multiplying all the credits earned by the grade numeral, and then the total is divided by the credits earned. GPA of 2.0 or 2.5 is considered within the reach of all students, and is therefore necessary to pass the course.
